last night nate, drew and i came back to campus from a friend's house and decided that since the weather was good, the timing was right and today's weather was going to be less than desirable we had to celebrate the 4th of july early.
i am no stranger to 3rd of july parties. my family holds a huge party at the lake every year on the 3rd of july because simply put: the 4th is about rebellion and doing things our own way! unfortunately, i am not at home this summer so i had to find my own way to celebrate the holiday.
so, we pull into the nice 'n easy, a gift from god, and browse the selection. i decided that since our goal was to maximize volume and fun, i would go for the best value. drew suggested that i try old milwaukee.
as soon as i picked up the case (and that is an apt description - it is more like an actual case), i was shocked at how heavy the bloody thing was! this is not a very portable beer. in fact, in addition to being a heavy package, it is very awkward to carry. if you have to walk a long distance from the car to your place of party, i encourage you to take this into consideration.
the "built ford tough" construction of the case, however, is not all bad. i appreciate a product that is packaged well. granted, the weight and awkwardness of the case detract from the overall packaging appeal, but the sturdy, heavy grade cardboard construction communicates that this is one company that is not messing around. in fact, industrial-sized staples are used to secure the sides of the box. thus, even if you find yourself having to carry old milwaukee a long distance, you can be confident that your bullion will not be damaged as a result of poor packaging, ripping, and dropping. (though, i cannot guarantee that you will not be attacked and pillaged by pirates, vigilantes, or beer mongering woodland creatures along the way.)
the beer, which is "carefully brewed with genuine malted barley, pure water, cereal grains and selected hops" by the STROH Brewery Co. in milwaukee, WI, was not half bad. granted it is not carlsberg, but for the price, it is still a quality beverage that facilitated in the making of a great night with friends. (and it was also refreshing to not drink the "tried and true" staple beer on college campuses.) i will definitely keep OM..Good old milwaukee in mind the next time i have a medium to large-sized gathering. it's relatively inexpensive, reliable and distinctive in taste.overall rating: 87 bottles of beer on the wall (out of 99)
